The short version: fishsancap.com has no accounts, no sign-up, no newsletter, no contact form and no advertising network. We don't set a single cookie of our own and we don't know who you are. There is no measurement script at all any more, and what replaced it is described below. What follows is the honest detail, including the third parties your browser does talk to and what they can see.
What we collect: almost nothing
We do not collect, store, sell or share personal information, and we cannot identify you. Specifically, this site runs:
- No third-party analytics. No Google Analytics, no Tag Manager, no Plausible, no Fathom, no Hotjar, no Meta Pixel, no Clarity. Nothing here reports to another company.
- How page views are counted, and it is not a script.
Netlify, our host, counts page views by reading its own server logs
— the ordinary record of which addresses asked for which pages,
which every web server keeps. Nothing runs in your browser to make
that happen and nothing is stored on your device. What they can see is
what any host sees: the page requested, roughly when, the IP address
it came from and the browser’s user-agent. We are shown counts,
never a list of people.
There was a measurement script, and there is not one now. From 21 to 23 August 2026 this site carried a small script at/.netlify/scripts/rumthat measured page-load speed and posted what it measured toingesteer.services-prod.nsvcs.net, a Netlify address on another domain, carrying your IP as any request does. It was switched off on 23 August 2026 and is no longer in the page. Nothing blocked it while it was there, so for those three days that did happen, and saying otherwise would be rewriting it.
This page has been wrong twice and both are worth keeping. It said “no analytics” until analytics were switched on. It then said the script was first-party and that “no other company sees your visit”, which was wrong for a different reason: serving a script from this domain is not the same as keeping what it collects on this domain. Corrected 22 August 2026 after reading the script rather than its description, and corrected again on 23 August when the script was removed. A privacy page that is out of date is worse than one that admits what changed. - No cookies set by us. Our own code sets no cookies and writes nothing to local storage or session storage.
- No forms, accounts or mailing list. There is nowhere on this site to submit your name, email or anything else.
- No advertising network. No ad tags, no retargeting, no data brokers.
Who your browser does contact
Changed 22 August 2026, and this is the biggest privacy improvement this site has had. Tides, water level and weather used to be fetched by your browser every time you loaded the page, which sent your IP address to NOAA and Open-Meteo on every visit. They are now fetched by our server three times a day and baked into the page before it reaches you. Your browser no longer contacts them at all — the numbers are already in the file. Two of the three sun and moon values were dropped from a third-party API in the same change and are simply calculated on the page.
What is left is nothing.
Until 24 August 2026 this table had one row in it: Google Fonts, on
every page load. The typefaces were requested from
fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com,
so those two servers saw your IP address and your browser’s
user-agent every time you opened any page here.
They are now served from this site. The fonts were subsetted to the 171 characters this site actually renders — 81.8 KB down to 48.4 KB — and the files carry a content hash so they can be cached for a year.
Your browser now contacts no other company at all when it loads this site. Measured rather than asserted: loading this site in a browser with the network log open shows eight requests, and every one of them is to this domain.
The Sticker Mule merch store came off this site on 24 August 2026. It was an embedded frame that could set its own cookies and see that a visitor arrived from here, and this page used to explain how to avoid loading it. There is no longer anything to avoid: the embed is gone and nothing on this site frames anything.
Affiliate links, and what they do
fishsancap.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. This costs you nothing extra.
The gear links on this site carry a tracking tag. Here's what that means in practice:
- Clicking one takes you to Amazon, and Amazon places or recognises cookies in your browser so it can attribute a later purchase to this site.
- That attribution window is short. Amazon's terms measure it as a single session, which generally ends 24 hours after the click.
- Amazon tells us how many items sold and how much was earned. We are never told who you are or what you personally bought.
- Amazon and other third parties may serve content, collect information directly from you, and place or recognise cookies on your browser when you interact with them. That activity is governed by their policies. Amazon's is on their site under Privacy Notice.
- Nothing on this site is sponsored, and no brand has paid for placement. Gear is chosen on merit and local relevance. If that ever changes, this page changes first.
Every other outbound link on this site — captains, shops, restaurants, conservation groups, government agencies — is editorial and earns us nothing.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, their servers record standard request information such as IP address, timestamp, requested page and user agent, for delivery, security and abuse prevention. We don't build profiles from it and we don't combine it with anything else.
Your choices
- Cookies. Since we set none, there's nothing here to opt out of. Amazon can set its own if you follow a product link, and those can be blocked or cleared in your browser settings.
- Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. We have no tracking to disable, so these signals change nothing about how the site behaves.
- Affiliate attribution. If you'd rather not be attributed, search for the item on Amazon directly instead of clicking through.
- Access or deletion requests. We hold no personal data, so there is nothing to retrieve or erase. If you believe otherwise, get in touch and we'll look.
Children
This site is aimed at adults planning fishing and beach trips. It is not directed at children, and we knowingly collect no information from anyone, children included.
Accuracy, and what this site is not
Tides and weather here are estimates to help you time a trip, not navigation data. Wind and pressure move real water off the predicted chart. Fishing and shelling rules change: check current FWC regulations and the City of Sanibel before you keep anything. Nothing here is legal advice.
Changes
If what the site does changes — an analytics tool, a form, another affiliate programme — this page gets updated before that goes live, and the date below changes with it.
